Stab proof/spike proof vests are a type of body armor that is designed to resist knife attacks to the chest, back and sides. They are different from bulletproof vests as they have less protection against bullets but can prevent serious injury by prohibiting knife penetration by a few millimeters. They are also needle and slash proof which makes it a great body armor for daily use.
The problem with most of these is that they are stab-resistant. Really, your best option is either more than $350 (probably) or some metal plates. Also, check out bulletproofme.com. They sell stab-resistant vests, but they cost about $550-$700 before options (I don't know what options are available).
